Deion Sanders lends his vote to the Heisman Trophy: ‘We’re doing something we’ve never seen before’

The Heisman Trophy case is hot and heavy, but the answer is simple for Deion Sanders.

Sure, Colorado’s head coach may be a little biased, but he’s currently betting on the all-time favorite, Travis Hunter.

“Travis gets my vote. “Travis is the best player in college football,” Sanders said on Saturday’s edition of “Big Noon Kickoff,” which aired before the game against Sanders’ Colorado team at Texas Tech.

“Really, [Deion’s son] Sheudeur [Sanders] is the trigger, it gets Everting going, but Travis Hunter does something we’ve never seen before.

Sure, Coach Prime may only be praising his own man, but he’s not wrong. Hunter is elite on both ends and is quite literally the Shohei Ohtani of college football.

Many scouts predict he will be a cornerback in the NFL; Well, he has 60 receptions for 757 yards and eight touchdowns in eight games this season, already surpassing his total from last year (he missed three games with a spleen injury).

Additionally, his seven pass breakups lead the entire Big 12. He has two interceptions and 21 total tackles, including 14 solo tackles.

With this combination of skills on offense and defense, it’s no wonder mock drafts are taking him early in the first round, possibly even the top five.

Other players in the running include Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel, Miami quarterback Cam Ward and Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty.

There is certainly a case for every player. Gabriel is the man leading the No. 1 team in the country, Ward leads the entire FBS with 29 passing touchdowns, and Jeanty is on pace to equal Barry Sanders’ all-time single-season rushing record in college football break.

It will be a race to the finish, but it’s hard to blame Sanders for endorsing his man.
