Deion Sanders’ son Shilo’s $11.89 million debt hinges on his mental health defense in a high-risk bankruptcy case

This season initially Coach Primes Son, Shilo Sanders, was completely missing from the crime scene. His forearm injury kept him out for a while. However, his performance after his recovery at Kansas State raised significant questions. But in the next game he made sure to turn the criticism into recognition. Shilo is currently in the spotlight due to his bankruptcy proceedings.

Deion’s Security filed for bankruptcy in October 2023, intending to get rid of his debts to John Darjean, a security guard at his old school in Dallas. The bankruptcy amount is $11.89 million. Filing for bankruptcy is a way for debtors to pay off their debts. However, this request may not be accepted if the debt comes from one “intentional and malicious injury to the debtor”. That’s exactly what the other side is trying to argue. Darjean sued the Buffs’ safety and won a default judgment of $11.89 million in 2022. What does the federal bankruptcy judge overseeing the case see?

The judge in question, Michael Romero, made no specific statements after the recent hearing. However, the judge indicated the case could go to trial. The big question now is: what will the trail focus on? He clearly mentioned that the trail would focus on Shilo’s mental health when he was 15 years old and attacked a security guard at his school.

According to USA Today, Romero said: “If I deny the motion for summary judgment and we have a trial, don’t you also agree that the only thing that matters is the state of mind at the time?” He suggested that the trial would focus solely on Shilo’s mental state if he chose not to enter a summary judgment against security. Otherwise it’s an open case. What is there even to talk about? But remember, Shilo was 15. The mental health defense may still have a lot to offer.

Will his mental state at the time help him get out of the case he’s been fighting since he was 15? The next hearing will probably provide clarity for Shilo and his family. Now let’s take a look at the original assault case against Shilo.

Four out of five investigations concluded that Shilo Sanders was to blame

How can Deion Sanders stay away from anything that worries his children? Before the season started, Coach Prime pushed for it USA today to investigate the case, and the renowned newspaper did so. The findings? Well, journalist Brent Schrotenboer noted that five different agencies had already investigated the original assault case.

Agencies include Dallas police, Shilo’s school, an insurance company, Texas Child Protective Services and a Dallas civil court. It is shocking to know that four of these five investigations concluded that Deion’s eldest son was to blame. Only Texas child protection authorities disagreed, saying they could not determine whether Shilo should be held responsible.

So the case is that John Darjean, a school security guard, claimed he suffered serious injuries after Shilo allegedly attacked him. The security guard claimed Shilo elbowed him when he tried to take his phone at school. When the incident occurred, Shilo was a ninth grader at FOCUS Academies in Dallas. Hold onto! Even the fifth investigation, which sided with Shilo, changed its statements after finding new information, stating that at this point they could not determine who was to blame.

USA Today reported on the police investigation: “On September 17, 2015, at approximately 11:55 a.m., Dallas Police responded to a call for service in the 2500 block of W Ledbetter Drive. The preliminary investigation revealed that a security guard and a teenager were arguing when the teenager hit the security guard. Dallas Fire Rescue responded and transported the security officer to a local hospital for further medical treatment.”

Similarly, they also reported on the school’s investigation report. Surprisingly, after initially suspending the security guard, the school did a U-turn and reinstated him. The report said: “You [security guard] tried to take the student’s cell phone away. They were hit in the upper chest area by the student’s elbow. They then tried to hold the student against the wall. The student pushed himself against you, pushing you both away from the wall. They tried to hold the student against the wall a second time and then brought him to the floor to restrain him. At this point, other employees entered the area to assist.”

Apparently there is video footage that corroborates all of these claims, but we were unable to access it. Bankruptcy proceedings are ongoing at the moment, and an unfavorable ruling could cause new problems for Prime Time’s son.
