Disease invalidation, gender, and the medical encounter in Lyme disease

Alison Rebman, assistant professor at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and co-director of clinical and epidemiological research at the Lyme Disease Research Center, will speak on the topic Disease invalidation, gender, and the medical encounter in Lyme disease.

Illness invalidation – sometimes called “gaslighting” – is a common experience among patients with Lyme disease.

This lecture will discuss current scientific articles on Lyme disease and other diseases about the impact of disability on the patient. It also discusses the gendered history of invalidation and how it influences medical practice today.
