Does Dolphins WR play Rams tonight?

play

The Dolphins played like a fish out of water all season long. As they prepare for their Week 10 matchup on “Monday Night Football” against the Rams, the Phins could be heading into battle with a key member of their roster.

Tyreek Hill’s status was far from clear as of Monday night, and no one can give a clear answer. That will officially happen around 6:45 p.m. ET, when inactive reports are due. However, there is now speculation that the receiver has a wrist injury.

Miami enters Week 10 with a record of 2-6, good enough for last place in the AFC East. Barring a miracle, their playoff hopes are gone. That’s an important factor in the decision regarding Hill. Once teams come to terms with a lost season, they tend to err on the side of caution heading into next year.

While that may or may not be the case with Hill, Miami needs to protect its star player going forward. For a team that has struggled all season, these Dolphins have some business decisions to make. Here’s the latest on Hill ahead of kickoff Monday night in Los Angeles.

Update on Tyreek Hill’s injury

ESPN’s Adam Schefter provided some promising news for Hill’s status on “The Pat McAfee Show” on Monday. Schefter said he heard it sounded promising that the receiver would play. He later added that he believes Hill will keep up.

Of course, things can change quickly when injuries occur. Hill has been bothered by a wrist problem since training camp. Despite being on the injury report a few times, he has yet to miss a game. However, alarm bells began to ring in the lead-up to Week 10 when Hill was listed as a DNP on Friday and Saturday before being given the “questionable” rating.

Since then, his decision has been considered a game-time decision, with head coach Mike McDaniel telling reporters on Saturday that Hill’s wrist was “heating up” and the team wanted to “let it cool down.”

Hill’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, did not rule out surgery but said the decision would remain internal. Whether Monday evening’s result changes the outlook one way or another remains to be seen.

Dolphins WR depth chart

Miami’s depth has been tested all season, and the receiver spot is no different. With Braxton Berrios and others on IR, losing Hill would place an even greater strain on an already faltering unit. Here’s a look at how this likely breaks down:

Waddle would take over the WR1 spot, but it would take a collective effort behind him. Beckham Jr. is the most likely player to get those additional targets, but Miami activated Cracraft off IR on Monday, providing additional security. The reality, however, is that Miami will likely look elsewhere if Hill is out. McDaniel’s offense will likely focus on tight end Jonnu Smith and the running back room to make up for the lack of production in the passing game.
