Dolphins’ Calais Campbell plans to ride ‘until the wheels fall off’

The Miami Dolphins pulled off a huge win Monday night, snapping a three-game skid to keep their postseason hopes alive, while the defense kept Sean McVay’s Rams out of the end zone in a 23-15 win at LA

The Dolphins’ defense posted a season-high four sacks in the win and looked dangerous with the return of stud inside linebacker Zach Seiler. The presence of the great man and ageless wonder Calais Campbell inside helped open things up on the sidelines. Rookie Chop Robinson generated five quarterback pressures (which tied a career high) and a sack.

“If we play our best ball, we can still beat anyone,” Campbell said, via the Associated Press. “We just have to keep believing, keep fighting. And of course the margin for error is zero. So it’s a game, but we have to move on. In order for us to get where we want to go, we have to keep fighting and believing.”

The win moved Miami to a 3-6 record, second place in the AFC East (behind the 8-2 Bills) and tenth place in the conference. The AFC’s disorganized bottom of the standings will keep several teams alive in the fight for the final wild card spots. The 5-5 Denver Broncos are currently ranked No. 7.

The Dolphins’ game plan could set Mike McDaniel’s club up for success. Five of Miami’s last eight games have come against teams that currently have three or fewer wins. However, they can no longer afford any more mutilated toes.

“(Monday night) was a very, very important game for our team just to come away from three losses, two in the final moments of the game, and I think that’s something we can build on going forward,” said McDaniel.

Campbell helped lead the defensive effort early in the contest. The 1.90 meter tall giant managed one sack, three tackles and two passes defended and secured the victory. At 38 years old, Campbell is a wonder. Most players his age, not to mention defenders in trench warfare, are sitting on the couch. Still, Campbell is a disruptor week in and week out.

He has no plans to slow down.

“God is good. I am blessed. I’m happy. I am healthy. I go out there and do my best. I work really hard in the offseason to get in football shape. “I have a great team.” helps me prepare for the week and get back on the field, I tell you that,” he said with a laugh. “But I love it and I’m glad God has blessed me to still do it. And I’m going to ride it until the wheels fall off.”

Likewise, the Dolphins are hoping they can continue to ride tall down the stretch and keep their season alive.
