Dolphins QB laughs about his ‘terrible’ form

When Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa got in the way of Los Angeles Rams linebacker Christian Rozeboom after throwing an interception in the first half of the teams’ “Monday Night Football” matchup, the score was 26 -year-old quarterback faces an important decision.

Would he try to tackle the 6-2, 237-pound linebacker or would he take himself out of the game?

In that moment, instincts took over and Tagovailoa’s goal of protecting himself momentarily faltered. He lined up Rozeboom and tried to hit the veteran linebacker low to take him to the ground.

The result? Tagovailoa stopped Rozeboom, but caught his knee in the head.

In that moment, the NFL world held its breath, concerned for the sixth-year starter who had already missed four games in 2024 due to a concussion.

Luckily, Tagovailoa was able to get up unharmed after the incident. During a post-game press conference, he told reporters that despite the scary-looking game, “everything was good.”

“I wasn’t planning on using my head,” Tagovailoa explained the move, then added with a laugh: “That was a pretty bad tackle, though. That was pretty terrible.”

Tagovailoa went on to say that he gave Rozeboom a good-natured critique after the game.

“I went to the guy who intercepted me and asked him, ‘Brother, couldn’t you just want to run out of bounds or cut back? It’s like you see me. “You just wanted to run me over?”

Rozeboom’s answer?

“He told me after the game that there was no room left,” Tagovailoa said. “There was nowhere else to go, so to speak. So he has to do what he has to do to help his team win games.”

The same goes for Tagovailoa, who was almost the last line of defense after Rozeboom’s selection. His tackle prevented the linebacker from getting into the end zone. However, an illegal blindside block penalty against the Rams during the game might have had the same effect without the risks associated with Tagovailoa’s tackling.

Either way, it doesn’t appear Tagovailoa will back down as he looks to lure the Dolphins back into the AFC wild card race. Their 23-15 win over the Rams improved them to 3-6 on the season, 1.5 games behind the conference’s seventh seed, with eight weeks left in the 2024 NFL season.
