Duke freshman Kon Knueppel is named ACC Rookie of the Week

Through two regular season games, freshman Kon stick leads all Blue Devils scorers and is 10th in the ACC. What makes his 18.5 point average all the more impressive is the fact that the 6-foot-2 winger is contributing at this level on a team that features five players averaging in double figures and two another just under ten points per game with 9.0 and 8.5 respectively. Knueppel leads the team in minutes played per game at 29.0 per night, although both games resulted in lopsided wins for Duke.

duke Freshman guard Kon stick was named the ACC men’s basketball rookie of the week, the conference announced Monday, Nov. 11. In the 2-0 week, Knueppel averaged 18.5 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per contest while shooting 56.5% from the field and 50.0% from behind the arc.

In his collegiate debut, Knueppel scored a game-high 22 points on 8 of 14 shooting from the field, including 3 of 8 from three-point range and 3 of 3 from the free throw line. He also had four rebounds, two assists and a steal against Maine.

Against armyWith 15 points on 5 of 9 shooting from the floor, including 4 of 6 from long distance, he once again topped the Blue Devils in scoring and also contributed two balls, two assists and a steal.

Over the past 11 seasons (since the start of the 2013-14 season), Duke has been named ACC Rookie of the Week in 86 of a possible 187 weeks (45.9%). 25 different Blue Devils have won the award at least once during that time.

No. 6 Duke returns to the court on Tuesday, Nov. 12 to face No. 19 Kentucky in the State Farm Champions Classic. The Blue Devils and Wildcats will meet for the fifth time at this event, with the game starting at 9 p.m. at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. The Top 20 match will be broadcast on ESPN.
