Ella Emhoff shares her emotional reaction to her stepmother Kamala Harris’ election defeat: “What? A. week.’

Ella Emhoff has shared her emotional reaction to stepmom Kamala Harris’ loss to Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential race.

The vice president’s 25-year-old stepdaughter appeared visibly distraught on Nov. 6 as she watched her stepmother take the stage to give her concession speech at Howard University.

Like many others in the sea of Harris supporters, Emhoff was photographed crying at the side of the stage.

Two days later, the fashion mogul expressed her emotional exhaustion on her Substack “Soft Pins” and opened up about all the feelings she’s been going through since the election results were announced.

“Ugh… What. “A. week,” she began.

“I feel like we all need that extra something this week. I know we are all feeling a lot of emotions right now. This is normal and it would be strange if we weren’t. I know I’ve been through about ten cycles of sadness, anger and stress – and that was just this morning,” Emhoff continued.

To ease her followers’ frustration, Emhoff encouraged them to let it all out.

“I think it’s important to feel them all,” she said of her feelings. “So they don’t fester inside.”

The young activist also took to social media, posting a picture of herself in tears during Harris’ concession speech as well as a message to her thousands of followers.

“Really no words. We will all get through this. It just hurts like hell right now and that’s okay,” she wrote.

“Please just check on your people now. I’m here for all of you and I love you.”

As Harris and Tim Walz’s campaign progressed, Emhoff actively supported her stepmother. She was often seen at rallies and posted photos on her Instagram. And while she clearly enjoyed taking a proactive role, the internet star was forced to temporarily pause some of her personal endeavors to pursue her stepmother’s bid for the presidency.

Back in August, Emhoff announced that she had to give up her knitting club — the Soft Hands Knit Club meetings in New York City — due to safety concerns.

“I just wanted to quickly talk about the Knit Club and explain what’s next. Unfortunately, due to the current situation, I cannot do it,” she explained on Instagram. “To protect myself and other club members, it is wisest to wait until the situation calms down.”
