ESPN reports that Wander Franco was arrested after a fight in the Dominican Republic

SAN JUAN DE LA MAGUANA, DR – Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Wander Franco was arrested following a brawl Sunday in the parking lot of an apartment complex that resulted in guns being drawn, ESPN reported Monday.

According to the ESPN report, police sources said Franco and an unnamed woman were being held for questioning after the altercation.

Franco has been on Major League Baseball’s banned list since July, when prosecutors in the Dominican Republic accused him of having a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old girl. He is accused, among other things, of sexual exploitation of minors and human trafficking.

The former star shortstop’s baseball career remains in limbo pending a decision on charges in the Dominican Republic sexual exploitation case. If convicted, Franco faces up to 20 years in prison.

MLB is also investigating the Rays’ shortstop under its domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse policies.

Tampa Bay signed Franco to an 11-year, $182 million extension in 2021, just 70 games into his career.

Back-to-back storm events brought record storm surge, rainfall and winds to the Tampa Bay region. The question some are now asking is not where people should rebuildBut where we should let nature take control again.

Abandon the coast?: Where can you rebuild and where can you let nature take over?
