ESPN’s NBA writer slams Lakers’ ‘special treatment’ for Bronny James: ‘Gone too far’

Bronny James’ schedule this year is no different than what other NBA rookies will endure. The Los Angeles Lakers intend for him to play only in home games for their G League South Bay Lakers.

Since Bronny only played home games for South Bay, he will not participate in the team’s away contests, which were covered by ESPN’s Brian Windhorst on The Hoop Collective podcast.

In Windhorst’s opinion, the Lakers’ handling of James, the son of superstar LeBron James, “went too far.”

“Honestly, I know he received some special treatment and nepotism. That’s okay. I don’t care. That’s normal,” said Windhorst, who has been with St. Vincent-St. reported on LeBron. Mary High School said. “Now I think it’s actually harmful to him. I don’t like that. I don’t know whose idea it was. Apparently the Lakers are okay with that. They do it.”

“In this particular case, I think this has gone too far and I don’t think it benefits Bronny. I don’t think it benefits the South Bay Lakers. And I don’t think it benefits LeBron at this point.”

The James father-son duo became the first to share an NBA court together in the Lakers’ season-opening win over the Minnesota Timberwolves last month.

Since then, Bronny has been used sparingly by new head coach JJ Redick, only appearing for a few minutes in six of the Lakers’ 10 games. Bronny scored a total of four points.

In his G League debut on Saturday, Bronny had six points, four assists and three rebounds in 31 minutes.

Windhorst can’t imagine not getting the full G League experience to help Bronny develop.
