Ethel Cain reacts to Trump’s victory, calling the US a “loveless” nation

Ethel Cain joins a chorus of celebrities – including Cardi B, Bette Midler and Jamie Lee Curtis – who have shared their reactions to Donald Trump’s victory in the presidential election. In a Tumblr post published on Wednesday, the artist shared a passionate message in which he called the United States a “loveless, disrespectful nation” that promotes “contempt and hate.”

“I have to say, if you voted for Trump, I hope you never find peace,” wrote Hayden Silas Anhedönia, known professionally as Ethel Cain. “Instead, I hope that one day clarity will come to you like a lightning bolt and you will have to live the rest of your life with the knowledge and guilt of what you have done and who you are as a person.”

“An embarrassingly large proportion of white men today are simply Nazis to distance themselves from the rest of the carnage around them, even if they are broke, uneducated, and poor themselves,” Cain wrote. “They will vote for anything and ally with anything to get a taste of power and control that makes them feel a little less helpless. The same applies to minorities. They strike when they think it will get them further, even if in reality they strike sideways.”

While the “Punish” artist acknowledged that a second term with Trump “will be a mess,” he argued that the election results point to a larger problem: the nation’s lack of solidarity and love and the decades-long exhaustion that the Americans had to endure.

“I don’t know if we can come back from this,” Cain wrote, saying the country has become a breeding ground for hate. “And if anything COULD be done about it, Trump certainly wouldn’t do it. Honestly, Kamala probably wouldn’t have done that either. We’re so screwed.”

In a now-deleted Tumblr post, Cain expressed his support for Chappell Roan’s decision not to support a presidential candidate. Cain also advocated for the Palestinian people during the Israel-Hamas war, releasing a song on Soundcloud that she described as a “prayer for them.”

“We literally cannot rely on the government to bring any semblance of progress or hope, so just keep up the good fight in your personal life,” Cain concluded. “This is literally the only thing that can be done right now. Stay safe out there. Maybe buy a gun.”
