“Euphoria” Season 3 “Dead” on HBO – World of Reel

After many delays, HBO had announced that filming for the third season of “Euphoria” would begin in January 2025. The last thing I heard was that the script wasn’t finished yet. I was always skeptical that there would actually be a third season, and it looks like that might be the case.

In my initial reporting, Euphoria was in turmoil, generating headlines for months that clearly haven’t let up. Many questions remain unanswered about the HBO series. Jeff Sneider is now hearing that planned 2025 filming is not happening and that the show may be “dead” at HBO.

To hear that EUPHORIA is actually dead on HBO and that everyone is leaving the show and leaving it where they left it. Could always revisit it years later, but no more filming is planned for 2025. It sounds like this is it, folks…

This isn’t surprising news since Euphoria star Zendaya has a booked 2025 ahead of her. The actress is set to film Dune: Messiah, Spider-Man 4 and Christopher Nolan’s next film in 2025. Where is “Euphoria”? HBO originally booked a six-month production for next year.

Already in April, a source had hinted to me that the show was over: “It’s about commitment and I just can’t imagine everyone being on board at the same time after this latest delay.”

This latest delay comes amid a recent one report about the behind-the-scenes chaos that led to Season 3 becoming a reality. It turns out that creator Sam Levinson originally pitched a third season to HBO in winter 2023, set to arrive five years later, with “very compelling” storylines for Sydney Sweeney’s Cassie and Jacob Elordi’s Nate. However, Zendaya disliked the script so much that Levinson had to rewrite the whole thing from scratch.

But after Levinson completed his updates to the S3 scripts, HBO executives were unhappy with the end result. They didn’t like Zendaya’s new storyline, which sidelined her character as a private investigator. A number of other storylines also didn’t make sense to her.

This sent Levinson back to the drawing board with a third revision, and according to Variety, insiders say the updated scripts still don’t feel like “Euphoria” tonally, meaning Levinson will likely have to rewrite the whole thing again for the fourth time.

HBO is reportedly considering replacing Levinson as creative lead. There was also the idea of filming the third season. All of this doesn’t even take into account the fact that some of the main cast (Zendaya, Colman Domingo, Jacob Elordi, Sydney Sweeney, Hunter Schafer) are no longer working in television two years after the last season and have graduated from the film business.
