Investigators are looking for answers as to what led to this Liam Payne‘s death.

On October 16, 2024, the former One Direction member fell to his death from a balcony at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires. He was 31 years old.

A November 7, 2024 press release translated by the Argentine prosecutor indicated that Payne’s death was not ruled a suicide.

The details of the situation “exclude the possibility of a conscious or voluntary act,” the statement said. “In the state he was in, he neither knew what he was doing nor could he understand it.”

What was Liam Payne doing in Argentina?

In the days leading up to Payne’s death, many fans shared positive memories of interacting with the singer. Some admirers spotted the singer in front of the Palacio Duhau Hotel in Buenos Aires on September 30, 2024 and were able to share a brief interaction with him. “He looked good” Noelia Veron told exclusively Us weekly. “The relationship with the fans was unique. He took the time to greet each one of them, take a photo, be there and share.”

However, on the day of his actual death, Payne reportedly exhibited disturbing behavior. The head receptionist at CasaSur Palermo had called 911 about an unnamed visitor and said, “We have a guest who is on drugs and is trashing the room.”

While the line was disconnected, the receptionist called back 911 and warned that a guest “could be in danger” because his hotel room had a balcony.

Who has been charged in connection with Liam Payne’s death?

On November 7, 2024, three unnamed people were charged with abandonment resulting in death and supplying and arranging narcotics.

As part of the investigation, investigators collected numerous statements from hotel employees, family members, friends and medical professionals and reviewed more than 800 hours of footage from surveillance cameras and other public cameras.

Officers also examined guest lists and restaurant bills to determine who visited Payne and to examine his drinking and eating habits.

The public prosecutor’s investigation revealed “clear evidence of at least four cases of third-party supply of narcotics and other facilitation of addictive consumption by Payne’s immediate environment during his stay at the hotel between October 13th and 16th.”

What did the suspects say about Liam Payne’s death?

In an interview with Argentina’s Telephone notifications which aired on November 9, 2024, Braian Nahuel Paiz – the first accused suspect to identify himself – denied dealing drugs with the late musician. “We did drugs together, but I never brought him drugs or accepted money,” the 24-year-old waiter claimed. “I never supplied Liam with drugs.”

While the other two suspects have yet to be identified, one of Payne’s close friends, Rogelio “Roger” NoresHe spoke out and denied any involvement in the late singer’s death.

“I never let Liam down. I went to his hotel three times that day and left 40 minutes before this happened,” Nores told the Daily Mail in a statement dated November 7, 2024. “When I left there were over 15 people in the hotel lobby chatting away him and joked. I never imagined something like this would happen. I gave my statement to the prosecutor as a witness on October 17th and have not spoken to any police officers or prosecutors since then.”

A preliminary autopsy report viewed by Us weekly revealed that Payne died from “multiple injuries related to ‘internal and external bleeding'” and was believed to be in a “state of semi- or total unconsciousness” at the time of the fall.

ABC News also reported that a partial autopsy revealed that Payne had “pink cocaine” – a recreational drug that typically mixes methamphetamine, ketamine and MDMA – in his system, along with cocaine, benzodiazepines and crack cocaine.

An official cause of death is expected to be announced at a later date.

When will Liam Payne’s funeral take place?

Three weeks after Payne’s tragic death, Us weekly confirmed that his body was flown to London on a flight from Buenos Aires, Argentina on November 6, 2024.

Payne’s father, Geoffflew to Argentina to identify his son’s body and arrange for it to be transported back across the Pond. The trial was delayed as local authorities conducted an investigation.

Payne’s funeral arrangements have yet to be announced.
