Former Duke star and NBA player Kyle Singler caused concern throughout the basketball world on Tuesday after he posted two bizarre videos on Instagram.

In the two videos, the first released on Monday evening and the second on Tuesday afternoon, a shirtless single man rants to a nearly empty room about being treated poorly by his “community” and suggests that after becoming active Career attempted to start a new business which ended with his retirement in 2019.

Singler’s statement in the first video”

“I have to make an announcement because I feel like my voice is being silenced and shit is being thrown at me every day. My community, damn it. I was mistreated and abused, neglected, humiliated.” into a spiritual example and I fear for my life every day.

“People in my community make me look like I’m a problem and making things difficult for people when I’m just trying to be helpful. I feel like I have a certain type of self and strength and determination that is neither valued nor treated appropriately.

And the second:

“So, like I said, I’ve been in this house for five years and it’s a dump. I went to my community and tried to invite my family and friends to play to try and help me, start a new career, start a new life, and everyone made a fool of me.

“Creating chaos, creating narratives so that in turn it is profitable for people. My life hasn’t changed at all. I’m being held hostage in a certain situation and made to once again create a false narrative about someone and the people in them.” In general, if all I wanted to do was start a business in nature, with that all people have the feeling – “

These two videos are the only posts on Singler’s Instagram page as of Tuesday afternoon.

The two videos raised significant concerns about Singler’s mental health. Kevin Love, who played on Singler’s AAU team before college, urged everyone who could to support Singler. Love has spoken about his own mental health struggles in the past.

In addition to Love, NBA veterans Isaiah Thomas and Andre Drummond also commented on Singler’s videos with supportive messages. Thomas wrote: “Here for you, brother! Always and forever,” and Drummond added, “You’re not alone, brother! I’m here for you.”

Singler holds an important place in Duke basketball history as one of the stars of the 2010 national team. Along with current Duke head coach Jon Scheyer, he earned first-team All-ACC honors and Final Four Best Outstanding Player honors this season.

The Detroit Pistons selected Singler 33rd overall in the 2011 NBA Draft. He spent the first three years of his NBA career as a starter, but saw his playing time decline in the following years. In six seasons with the Pistons and Oklahoma City Thunder, he averaged 6.5 points in 21.9 minutes per game.

After being released from the Thunder in 2018, Singler played two seasons in Spain before announcing his retirement in 2019 for personal reasons.
