Ex-UFC fighter reveals he was high on psychedelics during key PFL fight

In a surprising revelation, former UFC middleweight Tom Breese has opted out of competing in a crucial fight in the PFL despite high mushroom levels.

Breese (19-5 MMA, 5-3 UFC, 1-1 PFL) left the UFC after losing to Omari Akhmedov in 2021. He had relative success in KSW and then moved to the PFL, where he traded one win and one loss before moving to the regional circuit.

The fighter from Birmingham, UK, has admitted that substance abuse may have affected his performance in his PFL regular-season fight in April against former $1 million tournament winner Rob Wilkinson.

“I took drugs [Wilkinson] fight,” Breese said Information on Polish fighters on November 5th. “I took magic mushrooms; I’ve been taking drugs all week. … It was a tough time.”

Breese lost by TKO in the first round, ruining his chances of competing for the $1 million prize. Since then, Breese has picked up a win in Levels Fight League and could consider a return to KSW or a debut in OKTAGON MMA.

Breese maintained a winning record in the UFC, losing only to high-profile fighters such as Akhmedov, Brendan Allen and Sean Strickland. His time with the promotion was cut short, likely due to the frequency of his rejections. In total, Breese had eight canceled or postponed fights, four of which were caused by Breese and one that occurred just hours in advance.
