FBI warns Americans about two fake election videos

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has alerted Americans to two election videos that use the agency’s name and insignia, telling people the videos are fake.

The FBI issued a press release on Election Day, November 5th, stating: “The FBI has been made aware of two instances in which his name and insignia were misused to spread false narratives surrounding the election. “

The press release goes on to say that the videos contain a fake news segment that “falsely reports that the FBI allegedly stated that Americans should vote ‘remotely’ due to the high threat of terrorism at polling places.”

“This video is not authentic and does not accurately reflect the current threat situation or the security of the polling location,” the press release states.

The press release also states that the second fake video contains a “fabricated FBI press release.” The fake publication alleges that management at five prisons in the swing states of Pennsylvania, Georgia and Arizona “manipulated inmate voting and colluded with a political party.”

Not only is this video false, but inmate voting is already completely illegal in Pennsylvania, Georgia, and Arizona, as currently incarcerated inmates do not have the right to vote in any of these states.

The FBI also said, “Election integrity is among our highest priorities, and the FBI is working closely with state and local law enforcement partners to respond to election threats and protect our communities while Americans exercise their right to vote.”

The warning comes after the FBI released additional statements ahead of the election warning of online election interference, particularly by foreign actors.

On Monday, the FBI, along with the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), issued a statement warning of threats to election integrity not only on Election Day, but also in the weeks following the election warned.

The three security groups said: “Russia-linked influence actors in particular are producing videos and creating fake articles to undermine the legitimacy of the election.”

“Given ongoing influence efforts by foreign adversaries and the increasing amount of inauthentic content online, CISA encourages voters to seek information from trusted, official sources, particularly state and local election officials.”

The FBI did not say who it believes produced the two recent clips.
