Fitzgerald’s field goal was the 56th of his career, which puts him at No. 7 on the FSU all-time list.

Notre Dame was forced to punt on its next two drives before extending its lead to 14-3 less than 30 seconds into the second quarter. The home team punted again on its next drive and then missed a field goal before a touchdown late in the half with 17 seconds left to make it 21-3.

In the second half, ND was intercepted before extending its lead. The touchdown with 9:38 minutes left in the third quarter made the score 28-3. FSU turned the ball over at the Notre Dame 40-yard line on its next possession, and the defense held the Fighting Irish to a field goal that made the score 31-3 in the final minute of the third quarter.

Notre Dame scored with 10:53 left in the fourth quarter and again with just under four minutes left. An interception for a touchdown was the final score with 1:23 to play.
