Former teammate accuses Aaron Rodgers of “infidelity” for leaving the Packers after proposing to Patrick Mahomes

As Week 11 of the 2024 college football season begins, the Colorado Buffaloes face a crucial game. Deion Sanders’ team will take on Texas Tech at Jones AT&T Stadium, coming off two straight wins (currently with a record of 6-2). A win would move them closer to a possible appearance in the Big 12 Championship Game and a chance to advance to the expanded 12-team College Football Playoff. Since the match will have an impact on the NCAA scene, it could also have an impact on the NFL.

At least that’s what came from former buff David Bakhtiari’s tweet.

Since the Green Bay Packers parted ways with the offensive tackle this offseason, Bakhtiari has hit free agency. The Wisconsin-based franchise selected him in the 2013 NFL Draft and he remained with the team for 11 seasons. But it looks like he has also remained loyal to the Colorado Buffaloes, who he played for from 2009 to 2012. Or he just has so much confidence in the leadership of Deion Sanders, who appears to have helped the Buffs turn the page.

But whatever the reason, David Bakhtiari used the Week 11 game as an opportunity to make a proposal not only to Patrick Mahomes, but also to the Kansas City Chiefs. He tweeted: “Hey [Patrick Mahomes]If your Texas Tech beats my CU Buffs, I’ll play left tackle for you.” From 2014 to 2016, Mahomes played for the Red Raiders and in 2017 he was drafted by the Chiefs in the first round. Since then, he has developed into one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. But who protected him this season?

It was either Wanya Morris or freshman Kingsley Suamataia at left tackle. But Mahomes was sacked 16 times in 8 games, an average of 2 per game. And that’s not really a good sign. So David Bakhtiari, who played left tackle for Aaron Rodgers with the Packers from 2013 to 2022, saw a gap and took advantage of it.

Rodgers had already earned his accolades with the Packers when Bakhtiari arrived in 2013. And with Bakhtiari at his side, the current Jets quarterback had a passer rating of 101.5! But not only did they build a strong partnership on the field, they also became close friends off the field, which probably led one fan to respond: “So you’re cheating on Aaron Rodgers now, right?”

Bakhtiari’s answer? “He was the first to commit infidelity” He hilariously referenced the fact that Aaron Rodgers left the Packers, leaving his left tackle behind. In his book, Rodgers’ partnership with Tyron Smith in New York amounted to a fraud. But every now and then you have to decide whether to stay or go. As Aaron Rodgers got older, he had to find alternatives, especially after they drafted Jordan Love with the intention of making him the new starting quarterback. But Bakhtiari understood his quarterback’s decision.

At least that’s what was clear from his emotional message to Rodgers when the Jets confirmed the deal.

After the Jets confirmed Aaron Rodgers’ move to New York in 2022, Bakhtiari released a carousel of pictures with the quarterback over the years. He wrote: “I hate goodbyes and this one in particular. This is the end of the chapter, but this friendship lasts a lifetime. You have been so instrumental in my life and I just want to thank you. And I love you, brother. Don’t cry because it’s over; smile because it happened.” Interestingly, this was the same message with which he ended his own farewell message to the Packers this year.

David Bakhtiari shared a highlight of his time in Green Bay and wrote: “There’s a lot of emotion in it. I just want to say THANK YOU, Green Bay. Thank you for the last 11 years. It was a crazy run. I’ve always wanted to open a Lombardi on Lombardi Avenue, but I’ll never complain. I gave it my all. I always did my best, no matter the circumstances, and that was really enough for me.” The 33-year-old thanked everyone in the team and his family and concluded: “Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened.”

Rodgers responded to the farewell message with a simple comment “❤️.” However, David Bakhtiari may have jokingly written about his former quarterback’s move to the Jets “Infidelity,” It’s clear that there is nothing but love and respect between the two. Especially considering how much support Rodgers has received at offensive tackle in recent years.

In his farewell message to Green Bay, Bakhtiari wrote: “Whatever happens next, I’m looking forward to it.” For quite a while in the offseason, it looked like a reunion with Rodgers at offensive tackle would be next. However, the offseason came and went and the Jets did not sign Bakhtiari. However, he has made sure to stay up to date on everything Rodgers-related, even after the quarterback switched allegiances.

When Aaron Rodgers arrived in New York, he was surrounded by an aura. But in the opening minutes of his Jets debut in 2023, he suffered an Achilles tendon injury that ruled him out for the remainder of the season. It was heartbreaking. Even for David Bakhtiari. “I was just disappointed in him.” he said. “I know what he was struggling with and how excited he was, and I know how much the game means to him. For it to happen so quickly, especially with this type of injury and the need to recover from it, it’s going to be difficult.”

After all, he knows a thing or two about season-ending injuries. Over the last three seasons, Bakhtiari made only 13 of a possible 51 appearances due to chronic knee problems that required four surgeries. It started when he tore the cruciate ligament in his left knee on December 31, 2020. Since then he has only had 25 starts. Back to Aaron Rodgers: Heading into this season, some differences emerged between him and current Jets head coach Robert Saleh.

One of the incidents that caught many people’s attention was Rodgers’ “unexcused” Absence from mandatory minicamp. Bakhtiari defended his friend, tweeting: “Friendly reminder that teams don’t win games in June. Teams can only lose games (injuries) during this time.” But now that the season is well underway, things aren’t going so well for the Jets (they have a 3-6 record).

Rodgers needs to unite his O-line to score more points. Although he has struggled with injuries, the signing of many players like Davante Adams hasn’t helped the locker room either. This is problematic for interim coach Jeff Ulbrich. Aaron Rodgers and the new coach must carry the responsibility on their shoulders if they want to qualify for the playoffs. Otherwise the season could be over at any time.
