Freiburg under Schuster is more “dynamic” than before

Coach Bo Svensson from Bundesliga soccer club Union Berlin has highly praised Julian Schuster’s work at SC Freiburg. The sports club is even “a bit more dynamic and straightforward” under the coach than under predecessor and club icon Christian Streich, said Svensson before the new encounter at the start of the 10th matchday on Friday (8.30 p.m./DAZN).

The Breisgauers have been “a very stable team for years, very well-coordinated, and you can see that this season too. They have a clear plan,” said Svensson, who also has a clear goal: the winner of the duel between the seventh and sixth can jump to third place overnight.

The memories of the furious finale of the previous season are still fresh, when Janik Haberer shot the Köpenickers against the Streich team in the very last minute on matchday 34 to stay in the league (2:1). However, Svensson wasn’t on the sidelines at that time; when it comes to Freiburg, he “always thinks of Christian Streich. He was even a coach there when I was still playing,” said the 45-year-old: “They were all close games, everyone was on the edge – and I expect a game like that tomorrow too.

Lucas Tousart and Josip Juranovic return to the training pitch during the week, and Svensson has almost everything he can do. The two returnees after injuries “are fully integrated and are doing everything,” said Svensson, but the two “quality players” are not an option before the international break: “They were out longer, we have to see when it makes the most sense.”
