‘Full House’ Alum Dave Coulier Reveals Cancer Diagnosis: ‘My Own Personal Battle’

“Full House” alum Dave Coulier revealed on the latest episode of his podcast “Full House Rewind” that he has been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

“I’ve worn many hats many times in my life and career, and today I wear this hat for a different reason,” he said at the start of the Nov. 13 episode. “A few weeks ago I was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Mhm, big surprise, it’s a type of cancer.”

According to the National Cancer Institute, non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma is a type of cancer that forms in the lymphatic system, a part of the immune system that protects the body from infection and disease.

Coulier said: “This all happened to me very quickly” and revealed that he is already undergoing chemotherapy and made the decision to shave his head as a “preemptive strike” rather than wait for his hair to fall out.

“This is my own personal struggle. So why talk about it on ‘Full House Rewind?'” he said. “Well, because almost all of us are affected by cancer.”

Coulier went on to share how the women in his life he lost to cancer – his sister, his niece and his mother – inspired him to fight the disease.

“I’ve seen what they’ve been through, and if I can be even half as strong as they were during their fights, I’ll put up a pretty good fight,” he said.

Coulier also encouraged his fans to get screened by any means necessary – mammograms, prostate exams and colonoscopies – to detect cancer early.

“Early detection can make all the difference in the world,” he said. “And if my encouragement can lead to you getting checked out by your doctor sooner or later and possibly help even one of you, then this little journey I’m on will definitely be worth it, because it There’s a lot.” There are so many things to live for, so many things to look forward to.

In an interview with People, Coulier said he was diagnosed with stage 3 non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma after suffering an upper respiratory tract infection in October that caused severe and rapid swelling of his lymph nodes, one of which is the size of a golf ball. He underwent PET and CT scans and a biopsy, which confirmed his diagnosis.

“I went from ‘I have a mild cold’ to ‘I have cancer’ and it was pretty overwhelming,” he told the outlet. “It was a really fast roller coaster ride.”

Coulier told People that he relies on his wife Melissa Bring for support, as well as his son Luc, who is expecting his first child with his wife next year. He also said that his sister Karen is fighting cancer alongside him.

Good Morning America has reached out to Coulier for further comment.
