Galaxy Watch updates leave all Wear OS models months behind

Samsung has been working on its next major Wear OS update for quite some time, but has left almost all versions of its Wear OS-based Galaxy Watch in limbo, with no updates released in several months.

Wear OS 5 with One UI 6 Watch is Samsung’s next big update for the Galaxy Watch. The update was first released on the Galaxy Watch 7 and Galaxy Watch Ultra earlier this year, but it has yet to roll out to the rest of the series. It’s been in beta for a while now, ending in October, but the vast majority of Samsung Galaxy Watch customers are still using Wear OS 4.

But as has now been discovered, this waiting has led to a much bigger problem.

As GalaxyClub According to reports, Samsung has not updated any its older Galaxy Watch devices since shifting focus to Wear OS 5 and One UI 6 Watch. The Galaxy Watch 4, Watch 5 and Watch 6 versions are still stuck with updates and security patches from the first few months of this year, especially the March 2024 security patch.

That’s a long time without an update for these existing watches, but that’s not the situation much better for latest versions. Galaxy Watch 7, Watch Ultra and Watch FE are also months ago and still running the June 2024 security patch, albeit with the latest Wear OS 5 software.

Samsung has not commented on why all Its smartwatches have been out of date when it comes to security patches for months, but this wouldn’t be the first time patches have seemingly slipped the company’s radar. Earlier this year we talked about how many Samsung phones were months behind on Google Play system updates, an issue that Samsung fixed after it came to light. Hopefully the same thing happens with the Galaxy Watch.

Since Samsung’s Wear OS 5 beta recently ended, it’s certainly a sign that a public rollout isn’t too far away, but Samsung hasn’t made any announcements regarding this release.
