Game preview: The Colorado Avalanche look to continue their winning streak against the Los Angeles Kings

After picking up a dramatic 3-2 overtime win over the Nashville Predators on Monday night, the Colorado Avalanche look to take on the Los Angeles Kings. These will be the first three meetings between the old rivals, two in Denver and one in LA. The Kings had a decent run, posting a record of 6-3-1 in their last 10 games. They occupy the top spot in the Pacific Division.

The Avalanche got a dramatic overtime win from Samuel Girard, who scored his first goal of the year. Nathan MacKinnon became the first player in the NHL to reach 30 points this season. He averaged 1.88 points per game and looks to continue that tonight against the Kings.

Colorado hopes to build on its last two wins against the Predator and Carolina Hurricanes. So far this season, the Avalanche are 4-1-0 against Pacific Division teams.

Planned lineup

Artturi Lehkonen – Nathan MacKinnon – Mikko Rantanen
Joel Kiviranta – Casey Mittelstadt – Logan O’Connor
Ivan Ivan – Parker Kelly – Nikolai Kovalenko
Nikita Prishchepov – TJ Tynan – Chris Wagner

Devon Toews – Cale Makar
Samuel Girard-Josh Manson
Calvin de Haan – Sam Malinski

Los Angeles Kings

LA lost its last game 3-1 to the Calgary Flames on Monday night. The Avalanche need to keep an eye out for former DU pioneer Trevor Moore. He is on a record six-game streak in which he picked up seven points. It wouldn’t be a big surprise if our friend Darcy Kuemper was in net for the Kings.

He posted a 2.23 goals-against average in 10 career starts against his former team. This could be a battle of attrition as the Avalanche are on a two-game winning streak and the Kings have won two of their last three games at Ball Arena.

Planned lineup

Trevor Lewis – Anze Kopitar – Adrian Kempe
Trevor Moore – Phillip Denault – Kevin Fiala
Warren Foegele – Quinton Byfield – Alex Laferriere
Andre Lee – Samuel Helenius – Akil Thomas

Michael Anderson – Vladislav Gavrikov
Joel Edmundson-Brandt Clarke
Andreas Englund-Jordan Spence

goalkeeper

The Avs will again go with Alexandar Georgiev, while the Kings will likely go with the aforementioned Kuemper.
