Gas Leak Leads to Shelter in Place Areas East of Taft

An incident involving hazardous materials triggered a shelter-in-place order in the area of ​​South Lake Road Wednesday morning.

A ReadyKern alert said: “A highly toxic flammable gas leak has become a threat to areas near east of Taft. Contact with the vapor cloud can cause serious health problems. DO NOT go outside.”

KCFD has asked residents in the area to shelter in place until further notice.

Close windows and doors and bring pets if it is safe to do so.

KCFD recommends eliminating any form of ventilation in your home by turning off air conditioners and swamp coolers. They said they should prepare to look after themselves until further notice and/or they have been contacted by emergency responders for further instructions.
