Georgia fans want Mike Bobo and Carson Beck to shoot into the sun after Ole Miss’ start

Even after eight games this season, it was impossible to match the highs and lows the Georgia Bulldogs experienced this year. Looking at the Dawgs’ losses to Clemson and Texas, while also seeing struggles against Kentucky, Mississippi State and certainly in the first half against Alabama, it’s hard to guess what version of Georgia we would see on their big trip to Oxford faces No. 16 Ole Miss on Saturday.

However, after the first 30 minutes of action, the answer to the question of which version we would see would probably be best described as “not the version that UGA fans wanted to see in the slightest.”

Not only did Georgia’s defense not perform well in the first half against Ole Miss, especially in the second half, but the offense was really lazy. Kirby Smart’s team went into the locker room having gained a measly 69 total yards on offense. And while Carson Beck’s interception problems didn’t persist, his 6-of-10 passing 6-of-10 throw for 49 yards didn’t earn him any fans.

And as a result, Dawgs fans targeted Beck and, more specifically, much-maligned offensive coordinator Mike Bobo, while our friends at Message Board Geniuses rallied fans calling for the OC to take to the streets, Jack!

While we typically see the biggest overreactions in college football come from Message Board Geniuses, this statement could be quite believable.

While Beck certainly hasn’t done this Georgia offense any favors and the offensive line has underperformed, there’s been a feeling for weeks now – basically since the narrow win over Kentucky – that Bobo is actively hindering the offense.

Some Dawgs fans have reached a certain level of acceptance with Bobo as he was very reticent to pick up the pace, get creative and get that offense going, especially in the first half. But why should that be so?

I keep coming back to the second half of the loss to Alabama, when Georgia almost pulled off an unrealistic comeback when it came to Bobo, and that should have been a wake-up call. When the going got tough, he ran faster than usual and the offense took off. And every time we saw the Bulldogs have to move faster than normal, the offense consistently looked better and more dangerous.

While we’ll see what happens in the second half against Ole Miss, the bare minimum of what we saw shows that Georgia needs to seriously consider how much Bobo is actively holding this team back.
