Georgia’s Smart calls backup Pope an “idiot” for seemingly celebrating the loss to Ole Miss after the game

ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — Georgia backup safety Jake Pope has apologized after a video in which he appeared to celebrate on the field with Rebels fans following the Bulldogs’ 28-10 loss at Mississippi drew intense criticism from Georgia coach Kirby Smart called out. In the video, a smiling Pope was seen jumping up and down people he said were longtime family friends from his hometown of Buford, Georgia. Smart said Monday: “What an idiot” and “just stupid.” Georgia fell nine spots to No. 11 in the AP Top 25 and will play No. 6 Tennessee on Saturday night.
