Gunmen open fire at a bar in central Mexico, killing 10 people

According to local officials, several gunmen stormed a bar in central Mexico on Saturday evening and opened fire. They killed at least ten people and injured seven others before fleeing the scene. A suspect was arrested.

The incident occurred around 9 p.m. on Saturday when four armed men arrived in a pickup truck at the Los Cantaritos bar in Querétaro, a city in the central state of the same name.

According to Juan Luis Ferrusca Ortiz, the head of the city’s public security department, surveillance video from the bar showed the gunmen opening fire indiscriminately, hitting at least 17 people. Ten people were declared dead.

Among those killed were seven men and three women.

“Through a call to 911 reporting shots fired on Circunvalación Street, specifically in the Los Cantaritos bar, emergency services arrived at the scene and confirmed that four people with long guns arrived in an identified vehicle,” said Ferrusca Ortiz said.

“The vehicle’s data was used for tracking and it was located in the municipality of El Marqués. “It was set on fire by the suspected perpetrators,” he said. He added that one person was arrested, although their exact role in the shooting was not immediately clear.

The motive for Saturday’s massacre was initially unknown. Querétaro is located about 179 kilometers northwest of Mexico City.
