High Surf Warning affecting Oregon on Tuesday

The National Weather Service issued a high surf warning at 2:32 a.m. Monday, effective Tuesday between midnight and 4 p.m., for the Clatsop County coast, the Tillamook County coast and the central Oregon Coast.

The weather service expects “large waves and dangerous surf conditions. Breakers up to 25 feet.”

“Destructive waves can unexpectedly wash over beaches, jetties and other structures. People can be swept off rocks and docks and drown while watching the high surf. Minor beach erosion can damage shoreline properties and buildings. A greater than normal rise in water levels is expected on beaches and low-lying coastal areas,” the weather service adds. “A high surf warning means high surf may impact beaches and cause rip currents, waves and beach erosion. Stay away from the water’s edge and watch out for exceptionally high waves. Stay away from large logs on the beach. The water is running high on the beach and logs can easily be lifted or rolled, which could injure or kill anyone who gets in their way.”
