Hoboken City Council President Jen Giattino has died

Hoboken City Council President Jen Giattino died suddenly Tuesday after more than a decade in office, New Jersey officials said.

She was 53.

Giattino’s tragic death was announced by Hoboken Mayor Ravi Bhalla, who remembered his colleague as a “bright light” and dedicated public servant.

“Her kindness, humility and quiet determination have made her a treasured individual whose influence will be felt for generations to come,” Bhalla wrote in a statement Tuesday evening. “There are no words to describe the sense of loss we all feel.

“Jen was a leader in our community and a fighter for all of us.”

It was not immediately clear how Giattino died.

She was reportedly first elected in 2011 and secured re-election in the next three city council elections.
