“Hot Frosty” is good for your mental health, I think

Christmas films can be a balm for the soul in dark, dark times. At their best, they remind us of the goodness that lies in the hearts of humanity. And at their worst, they’re still pretty unwaveringly cheerful. Well, I won’t promise you Hot frosty – a new Netflix release about a snowman who becomes a real, human man – is on par with Christmas classics like A Christmas Story, Home Alone, Elf, Love Actually, or Gremlins. However, I assure you that it is a delicious treat that is sure to delight you with 90 minutes of seasonal happiness.

Yes, yes, there are plenty of Hallmark movies to choose from, and Netflix has its own selection of Christmas movies – including footage of a cozy fireplace. But trust me, Hot frosty should be your go-to when you need a break from the worry, stress and general panic that life brings in this very intense moment. Just let this be the mental massage of silliness and sweetness to unravel those knots in your muscles and wrinkles in your brain.

Written by Russell Hainline, Hot frosty plays on the festive rom-com clichés that fans have come to care about. After writing a series of festive films (To a cheerful extent AndThe Santa Peak, plus the upcoming films Three Wise Men and a Baby, The Christmas Class, And Christmas under the lights), Hainline is no stranger to these traditions and honors them with a keen awareness and sense of playfulness. As such, Hot frosty takes place in a quaint small town called Hope Springs, a place where everyone knows the kind-hearted widow Kathy (Mean Girls“Lacey Chabert), a restaurant owner who does her best to feed and care for her neighbors – and shirtless snowmen.

Amidst a festive holiday market adorned with red and green decorations and filled with festive R&B, an unconventional snowman is carved with long strands of hair, a bare chest, perky nipples and chiseled abs. Of course, caring Kathy gives him a long red scarf to protect him from the cold and give him a sense of dignity from the waist down. Well, there must have been some magic in the long red scarf she found, because when she placed it around his neck, he began to transform… into a flesh-and-blood man named Jack (Schitt’s Creek‘s beloved veterinarian Dustin Milligan).

Of course, after a few comical misunderstandings, he finds his way to Kathy and soon into her heart, where he soothes her grief with a lot of Golden Retriever energy. He’s muscular, handy and hot: masculine in a strictly non-toxic sense. For Jack, being a real man means helping others, like the gaggle of older ladies who could use a handyman (and a cheap thrill) thanks to a handsome, generous stranger. Jack’s caring nature and willingness to share his loving feelings – not to mention his ripped arms – make him a great choice for bondage season. He also enjoys baking Christmas cookies, understands the joy of cold pizza, gives her a place to express her sadness, and often goes shirtless! What’s not to love?

Kudos to Hainline and director Jerry Ciccoritti for making the most of Jack’s transformation scene. It’s not so much that the visual effects are awe-inspiring, but rather the craziness that follows, which is a mix of both Austin Powers humor and Terminator Plot points. When Jack comes to life, he wears only This long red scarf makes for a slightly spicy scene as the generous knit fabric comfortably covers his crotch no matter how he moves. Much like the newly arrived Terminator in James Cameron’s 1984 sci-fi classic (which has influenced countless Christmas tales), Jack comes into this world naked and in desperate need of clothing. So he turns to crime!

After accidentally walking in front of a surprised elderly couple, he beats up a biker because of his clothes. Instead, Jack breaks into the local thrift store, Reclaimed Rags, to grab some clothes. Specifically, he takes a pair of boots and a pair of denim overalls that are missing the sleeves, a perfect showcase for Jack’s powerful biceps. Public indecency, burglary and theft are the closest this charming city has ever come to a crime spree. The officeCraig Robinson is the sheriff of the case with amusing intensity, while Joe Lo Truglio listens to him Brooklyn Nine-Nine Days as an awkward partner/sidekick who, of course, gives Jack love advice. But whether it’s getting close to Kathy or getting locked up in the local jail, Jack is in danger because when things get heated, he melts.

Yes! The only downside to this innocent guy is that it feels cold and melts in warm weather. (See, the song warned us.) This means that Jack must frequently frolic in the snow to maintain his figure, and that sex with this snowman would be cold at best for Kathy and fatal at worst for Jack. But don’t dwell on it. For one, these Christmas lovers aren’t moving fast enough for that to matter, and for another, it’s a Netflix movie. Such questions fit our own horny musings better than Hainline’s cheerful vacation script.

This Netflix Christmas film presents the pillars audiences have come to expect: festive atmosphere, charming potential lovers, seasonal music, holiday fun and a happy ending. But Hainline thwarts his gift for goofy joy by populating Hope Springs with lovable weirdos who are all They are all too willing to believe that the inexplicably hot snowman from the Christmas display in the town square is a real, live man who is now offering to help them repair their houses, put up glass siding, or save the pretty young widow from her to help grief.

For example, there is the cheeky doctor Dottie, who, after taking his temperature (30 degrees!), quickly says: “Look, everything about Christmas: Santa Claus, elves, flying reindeer – the scientist in me knows it she shouldn’t give. But “Wouldn’t the world be a little better if they did?” She then argues that the fact that Jack is a snowman come to life is the “simplest explanation” for why he’s a hot guy Skin is ice cold. It’s just science, the film suggests; just join in. And yes, do that. It’s a real pleasure to slide down the ridiculous slide “Hot, frosty”s premise in which a hot, naive, but very sweet man is the perfect Christmas wish – for Kathy and for any of us who might need a little comfort in a cold, cold world.
