How Barbie doll maker Mattel made this “huge porn mistake.”

Mattel, the legendary toy maker behind Barbie, had a digital mishap. A recent incident revealed that QR codes printed on certain Barbie doll boxes were accidentally linked to pornographic websites.
The company has confirmed that the issue affected a limited number of dolls and has immediately taken steps to resolve the issue. Mattel has assured consumers that they are working diligently to remove the affected products from shelves and online marketplaces.

The company created some special Barbie dolls to promote the upcoming film Wicked. The issue came to light when social media users discovered that the QR codes on certain Barbie doll boxes redirected to adult websites. The printing error particularly affected the boxes containing the dolls Glinda and Elphaba, the main characters from the film starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande.

The company apologized

In a statement, Mattel expressed its deep regret over the incident, apologized for the “regrettable error” and stressed that the incorrect website was “not suitable for children.” The company recommended that consumers who had already purchased the dolls either discard or cover the misprinted website link. Additionally, Mattel recommends that anyone affected by the issue contact customer service for further assistance.
“We deeply regret this unfortunate error and are taking immediate action to remedy the situation. Parents are advised that the misprinted and incorrect website is not suitable for children. “Consumers who already own the product are advised to discard the product packaging or cover the link and contact Mattel customer service for further information,” the company said.
