Indiana-Michigan series history, record between Hoosiers and Wolverines

play

With the release of the first College Football Playoff rankings on Tuesday, the home stretch has truly begun for No. 10 Indiana football as the Hoosiers look to compete in the CFP for the first time.

The development of Curt Cignetti’s team, which finished eighth in the College Football Playoff on Tuesday, is favorable for the Hoosiers. Indiana will face two teams that have struggled mightily over the last month – one of which is Michigan, a team that has had Indiana’s number in the past.

This Saturday, Indiana and Michigan will meet for the 73rd time. However, unlike in recent years, Indiana is the favorite to win Saturday’s contest.

Here’s what you need to know about Indiana vs. Michigan history, including how many times the Hoosiers have beaten the Wolverines over the years:

When was Indiana football’s last win against Michigan?

Indiana’s last win against Michigan came on November 7, 2020 – ironically, it was the last time the Hoosiers were ranked before this season. In this Week 3 showdown, the Hoosiers were able to pull off a convincing 38-21 win over the Wolverines.

The Hoosiers never trailed in the 2020 game against the Wolverines, as Indiana led 14-7 after the first quarter at Memorial Stadium. Then-Indiana quarterback Michael Penix Jr. completed 30 of his 50 passes for 343 yards and three touchdowns, while Hoosiers running back Stevie Scott added two rushing touchdowns. On this day, Indiana outscored Michigan in virtually every statistical category, including total offensive yards and first downs.

With the win, Indiana picked up just its first win over Michigan since 1987. Prior to this win, Indiana had lost 24 games to Michigan.
