Insider names college football coaches who could make the jump to the NFL

As the NFL prepares for another season of coaching carousel, whispers about which college football masterminds could make the jump are growing louder. From storied programs and experienced secondary managers to offensive strategists, there’s bound to be someone who hears about it. The university ranks offer a lot of potential. It contains silos of untamed monsters waiting to be released in the Colosseum. But has anyone ever asked these monsters whether they’re dating or not?

In the new episode of Move the sticks Podcast. NFL Insider analysts Daniel Jeremiah and Bucky Brooks took a look at some top college coaches who could take their talents to the NFL. In a pool as deep as college football’s, it’s not easy to narrow it down. However, a few names have been filtered out that seem to win the most. Like Dan Lanning, Steve SarkisianRyan Day, Mario Cristobal, Georgia’s Kirby Smart, etc. But it’s not the average 9 to 5 and therefore not everyone is suitable for it. As Jeremiah said: “You have to know the NFL to be successful. If you don’t know the NFL, you don’t have a chance.” Enter trainers Sarks and Smart. Both Sarkisian and Smart bring experience here; Sark spent time as the offensive coordinator for the Atlanta Falcons. And Georgia’s “Power of Nature” was under Nick Saban’s Miami Dolphins team.

Jeremiah and Brooks argue that successful transitions from college to the NFL often require a little more than just knowing X’s and O’s – it’s about understanding the NFL grind and the unique dynamic in the locker room. But they essentially boil down to this: Ryan Day at Ohio State. A few losses may have dulled the shine for some Buckeyes fans, but Day’s impressive record still ranks among the best in college football. “He practically has the highest winning percentage in the history of college football.” Jeremiah added, underscoring Day’s competitive edge. Additionally, Day working with Chip Kelly, who has valuable experience as an NFL head coach, could yield results “Package deal”. And while Ryan Day isn’t open about the pressure he faces from the Buckeyes’ relentless fan base, it’s no secret that NFL teams offer a different kind of control, which could be a welcome change for him.

But what gives Sark the advantage? “NFL experience” Jeremiah explains. And Sark has been there and done that. From his time as an OC with the Falcons, he knows what to expect – and it’s not always an easy transition for college coaches. Just look at how Matt Rhule and Urban Meyer struggled. But the Longhorns’ head shot might not take it, which ultimately leads us to Ryan Day. A viable option and someone who is eager to take the plunge makes the most sense.

Insiders dream of Ryan Day and Kirby Smart in the big leagues

For Kirby Smart, the NFL conversation has been evident since he turned Georgia into a powerhouse. His time coaching under Nick Saban in Miami and his relentless success at the college level make him the ideal candidate for an NFL opportunity. Furthermore, being one of the best personalities in the CFB fascinates analysts and fans. But would he want it? Smart built something lasting at Georgia, and taking on an NFL challenge would be parting ways with a dynasty in the making.

Ryan Day and the Buckeyes are on the verge of their biggest win of the season. Ohio State triumphed over Penn State last weekend in State College. Looks like he’s on his way to a championship with the Buckeyes. It would be a telling story if he made it to the big leagues after giving second-place Ohio State what he deserved. However, if Day or even Smart make the jump, the NFL will have young talent that will shake up the league.

As teams prepare for upcoming coaching vacancies, it’s unclear who might be poached from the college ranks.
