Update Monday 5:45 p.m

Interstate 80 westbound reopened Monday evening after being closed for hours.

According to Caltrans’ road information page, I-80 westbound opened just after 5 p.m.

The state agency reported that the road was closed at the Nevada-California border shortly after 2 p.m. due to several foothills on Donner Summit and a winter storm system moving across the Sierra Nevada.

Chain control restrictions were also lifted on westbound I-80 west of Truckee. An all truck requirement remained in place in the eastbound lanes.

A winter weather advisory is in effect for Truckee and other parts of the Sierra until 10 p.m. Monday.

Snow accumulations of 2 to 6 inches were expected, according to the Reno NWS.

“Expect slippery road conditions for the afternoon and evening travel over passes in the region including Donner, Echo, Ebbetts, Carson and Mt Rose. Strong gusty winds and snow will reduce visibility to less than half a mile at times,” the advisory states.
