ISW Russian Offensive Campaign Assessment, Map and Update, November 12, 2024

Important findings from the ISW:

  • Russian forces recently advanced in two company-sized mechanized attacks within and south of Kurakhove in western Donetsk Oblast.
  • Geolocated footage confirms reports that an explosion damaged the Ternivska Dam on the Kurakhivske Reservoir on November 11.
  • Recent Western and Ukrainian estimates of the size of the Russian troop grouping in the Kursk region do not represent a significant reversal, as Russian forces have spent several months amassing forces for a future counteroffensive to drive Ukrainian forces from Russian territory.
  • Ukrainian military officials warned that Russian forces may increase their attacks on Zaporizhzhia Oblast in the near future.
  • Select Russian defense officials appear to contradict Russian President Vladimir Putin’s recent assertion that Russia has no interest in forming a unified security bloc against the West.
  • Russian forces recently advanced near Toretsk and Kurakhove, as well as in Kursk Oblast.
  • The Russian military is reportedly continuing to force conscripts to sign Russian military service contracts, likely as part of ongoing crypto mobilization efforts.
