Jacksonville Jaguars star among the inactives against Minnesota Vikings

The Jacksonville Jaguars will officially be without starting quarterback Trevor Lawrence in the game against the Minnesota Vikings.

Lawrence was listed as questionable to enter the contest because of a left shoulder injury he suffered in the first half of last week’s loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. Lawrence did not miss a snap against the Eagles following the injury, although he was the last player to take the field from the locker room in the second half.

Sunday will mark just the second time Lawrence has missed a contest since being selected No. 1 overall in the 2021 NFL Draft. Lawrence missed the first start of his career in Week 17 last year against the Carolina Panthers because of a shoulder injury. Lawrence also suffered an ankle injury and suffered a concussion last year.

With Lawrence officially retired, former 2021 first-round pick and starting quarterback for the New England Patriots Mac Jones will play with the Jaguars for the first time since they traded for him in March.

Jones has been Lawrence’s backup all season, while the Jaguars added more security at the position on Wednesday by signing former quarterback CJ Beathard to the active roster. Jones was the Patriots’ 2-9 starter in 2023.

“I’m doing everything I can to be out there. As in the past, I have lost my temper. So try to do everything I can during the week to prepare for playing on Sunday and take as much time as possible for that and to get healthy. So that’s how it is for me right now,” Lawrence said Wednesday.

Also inactive for the Jaguars on Sunday are defensive end Myles Cole, guard Ezra Cleveland, defensive tackle Esezi Otomewo and defensive tackle Maason Smith.
