Jared Goff: Every team gets kicked in the mouth, the good ones respond

It’s rare for a quarterback to face the media after winning a game in which he threw five interceptions, but that’s exactly where Lions quarterback Jared Goff found himself on Sunday night.

Goff’s three interceptions in the first half helped the Texans to a 23-7 lead and he threw two more in the second half, but these produced no points as the Lions’ defense held strong and shut out the Texans in the final 30 minutes. The Lions scored 13 points in the fourth quarter to claim a 26-23 victory in a game that Goff described as a “roller coaster” in a call with reporters.

Goff also called it a “mental battle” to keep fighting in the face of mistakes, saying that “every team gets punched in the mouth and the good ones respond.”

“At the end of the day, I never lost confidence because I felt like I was doing what I was supposed to do on most of those plays and our defense really saved ussaid Goff. “They really did it all day and the guys supported me on offense and I told them, ‘Hey man, I’m good.’ Just hang in there. I’m doing well. I will make the matter clear, and they have remained loyal to me.”

Other teams will see how the Texans pressured Goff and what that pressure led to. Therefore, the Lions need to improve some things as the Sunday night formula is not successful on a weekly basis. However, they were able to weather the storm for one night, and that bodes well for their ability to handle the adversity that will come their way later in the season.
