Jason Kelce apologizes for incident with fan who insulted his brother

Jason Kelce subsequently apologized for an incident that occurred the weekend before the Ohio State-Penn State game.

A viral social media video showed the former Eagles center grabbing an unruly fan’s phone and sticking it into the ground.

Kelce, who retired after last season, addressed the incident during ESPN’s “Monday Night Football” pregame show.

“I think everyone saw on social media what happened this week,” Kelce said. “Look, I’m not happy with anything that happened. I’m not proud of it. In a heated moment I decided to meet hate with hate and I just don’t think that’s a productive thing to do, I really don’t. I don’t think it creates a discourse and that it’s the right way to do things. In that moment I fell to a level I shouldn’t have.

“The bottom line is that I try to live my life by the golden rule. I was always taught that. I try to treat people with decency and respect and I will continue to do so.”

The elder Kelce was at Beaver Stadium taking part in the Big Ten showdown. The viral video showed some fans asking for photos, fist bumps and high fives.

But when someone started harassing him and shouting an anti-gay slur at his brother Travis regarding his relationship with Taylor Swift, Kelce took action.

In addition to smashing the phone, Kelce also appeared to use the same anti-gay slur before another fan separated the two before the confrontation escalated.

Kelce is in his first season as an NFL analyst for ESPN.
