Joe Mixon of the Texans scores a touchdown after an interception by Jared Goff

HOUSTON – The Houston Texans couldn’t plan a better start to their Sunday Night Football matchup against the Detroit Lions.

On the sixth play of the Lions’ opener, Texas safety Jalen Pitre deflected a pass from Lions quarterback Jared Goff and safety Jimmie Ward intercepted it.

The Texans wasted little time marching into the end zone with an eight-play, 33-yard drive capped by an 8-yard touchdown from Joe Mixon. With this score they led 7-0 in the first quarter.

Quarterback CJ Stroud kept the scoring going by converting a third-and-10 and a third-and-16 with passes to wideouts Tank Dell and John Metchie III, respectively.
