Jonathan Bailey Rehearsed ‘Wicked’ Dance Amidst Two Other Projects (Exclusive)

Jonathan Bailey is always fully booked and busy!

The 36-year-old actor has rehearsed a big musical number Evil while filming at the same time Bridgerton And fellow travelers.

“I have videos on my phone of me practicing on long-haul flights,” Bailey says in PEOPLE’s new special Evil edition, in which he practiced his character Prince Fiyero Tigelaar’s grand ballroom number “Dancing Through Life” in the midst of his other projects.

At one point in his trip, Bailey even encountered a circumstance that was less than ideal for his royal role: an airline lost his luggage as he was traveling from Canada.

Bailey left him with only the clothes on his back, but still had access to Fiyero’s magical dancing boots, which were in his carry-on.

Evilthe upcoming film adaptation of the Tony-winning Broadway musical, stars Ariana Grande as Glinda, alongside Cynthia Erivo, who plays Elphaba. (The musical’s original Broadway cast included Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel in the roles.)

Directed by Jon M. Chu, the project’s other cast members include Ethan Slater as Boq, Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard, Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible, Peter Dinklage as Dr. Dillamond, Marissa Bode as Nessarose, Bowen Yang as Pfannee and Bronwyn James as ShenShen.

Bailey tells PEOPLE that his character “has this golden glow of privilege where everything comes so easy to him that the most interesting thing for him is to piss everyone off.”

“He never really met anyone who challenged him,” continues the star, who got his first job at the age of seven in a Royal Shakespeare Company production A Christmas story and has since appeared on dozens of stages, including in Stephen Sondheim’s gender-swapped production in 2019 Company, For this he won an Olivier Award.
