Journalist Chris Wallace is leaving CNN

Journalist Christ Wallace is leaving CNN after nearly three years, the network announced Monday.

Wallace, 77, told the Daily Beast on Monday that he would pursue an independent platform like streaming or podcasting because that’s where “the action seems to be.”

Wallace hosted the Sunday political show “Fox News Sunday” on Fox News for 18 years before announcing in late 2021 that he was moving to CNN to host a CNN+ show.

But CNN+, a streaming service, wasn’t meant to last. The network announced in April 2022 that it would be closing at the end of the month.

Wallace had a CNN show called “Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace?” that streamed on Max, and he was also a figure in the network’s coverage of the 2024 election.

“Chris Wallace is one of the most respected political journalists in the news business with a unique track record across radio, print, broadcast, cable television and streaming,” CNN CEO and Chairman Mark Thompson said in a statement Monday.

“We would like to thank him for the dedication and wisdom he has brought to all of his work at CNN and wish him all the best for the future,” Thompson said.

Wallace’s three-year contract with CNN expires at the end of the year, the Daily Beast reported.

“This is the first time in 55 years that I’ve been going back and forth between two jobs,” Wallace told the website. “It makes me really excited and liberated.”
