Keyshawn Davis dominates Gustavo Lemos in two rounds

Keyshawn Davis needed just two rounds to knock out Gustavo Lemos in a homecoming bout before an announced crowd of 10,568 on Friday night in Norfolk, Virginia.

Davis (12-0, 8 KOs) forced the referee to stop the fight at 1:08 of round 2 when Lemos fell to the mat for the third time in the round. The 25-year-old Davis first knocked Lemos down with a short right hand. A left hook brought the 28-year-old Lemos back to the canvas moments later. A left hook body strike initiated the finishing sequence, which Davis punctuated with a brutal right uppercut.

The fight was scheduled to be held at 135 pounds, and while Davis weighed under the limit on Thursday, Lemos weighed 6.4 pounds over the limit. The fight continued anyway after Lemos weighed in at 144.6 points at the second day weigh-in. Despite the weight advantage, Lemos (29-2, 19 KOs) was never competitive. And Davis said he had “no concerns” about continuing the fight.

“I didn’t know the right hand was going to take him down, but I hit him right in the chin,” Davis said of the first knockdown. “The next thing I know he’s coming off the screen. … A world title will definitely be next. We have big, big plans for 2025.”

Davis’ first title fight could come against Ukraine’s Denys Berinchyk, who defeated Emanuel Navarrete in May to win the WBO lightweight title. Davis is an Olympic silver medalist who was ranked the No. 6 lightweight prospect by ESPN.

Lemos, a native of Buenos Aires, has lost two fights in a row. He suffered a controversial decision loss to Richardson Hitchins in April. This fight was fought at 140 pounds.
