Kings goalkeeper Darcy Kuemper apparently suffers an injury in the game against Avalanche

The 34-year-old left Wednesday’s game against the Colorado Avalanche after apparently suffering a groin injury in the third period. He was replaced in net by substitute David Rittich.

It wasn’t immediately clear when Kuemper suffered the injury, but he appeared to be in pain as the game progressed. Finally, he signaled to the officials to blow his whistle, whereupon he skated off the ice alone and went straight to the locker room.

Before leaving the game, Kuemper made 18 of 20 saves, for a save percentage of .900.

After the team’s loss, Kings coach Jim Hiller said he had no further news on Kuemper.

The Saskatoon native was traded from the Washington Capitals to the Kings in exchange for Pierre-Luc Dubois. In nine games this season, Kuemper posted a goals-against average of 2.65 and a save percentage of .903.

He won a Stanley Cup with the Avalanche in 2022 before spending two years with the Capitals organization.

Meanwhile, the Kings also lost defenseman Caleb Jones to an upper-body injury in the game against Colorado.
