Kirby Smart calls Georgia player “an idiot” for celebrating with Ole Miss fans

A moment from Georgia’s 28-10 loss to Ole Miss over the weekend went viral when a Bulldogs player was caught celebrating with Rebels fans after the game.

After their team’s surprising win over third-ranked Georgia, Ole Miss fans stormed the field Saturday night. Among the crowd was Georgia defensive lineman Jake Pope was spotted Celebrating with fans wearing Ole Miss Offensive Tackle Reece McIntyre’s gear. Pope and McIntyre both attended Buford High School in Georgia, which may explain why Pope seemed happy about Ole Miss’ win.

However, his coach Kirby Smart was anything but satisfied.

Smart addressed Pope’s viral video in a media session on Monday.

“What an idiot,” Smart said. “Just stupid. I haven’t seen it until today. He’s embarrassed, he’s upset about it. This is obviously a childhood friend, they grew up and played in Buford. I haven’t seen him in ages, but I just wasn’t very bright.”

“To be honest, I don’t have time to waste energy on this. Do you know what I’m saying? My focus is on Tennessee. “I’m not too worried about that,” Smart continued.

Pope, a four-star product from Buford and a transfer from Alabama, has played in three games for the Bulldogs this season, serving primarily as a reserve safety.

Smart will hope Pope has learned his lesson when Georgia (7-2) faces the Tennessee Volunteers on Saturday in its final conference game of the season.
