Lakers Injury Report: Anthony Davis leaves Raptors game with eye injury

A familiar story: Anthony Davis left Sunday’s game after being stabbed in the eye and did not return.

Last season, Davis left several games after being hit in the face. That trend continued this season when AD fired a shot into Jakob Poeltl’s face midway through the third quarter.

After he left the game and went straight to the locker room, the Lakers finally announced he would not be returning.

The shot in the face came after an insane block from Davis. In one whose highlights we’ll be covering for a while, Davis met Poeltl at the rim and rejected him in style.

Last season, Davis suffered a corneal abrasion in that eye after being hit in the face during a Warriors game in mid-March. He didn’t return for that game either, but didn’t miss the next game two days later against the Hawks.

This time the Lakers don’t play again until Wednesday and will be at home the entire time. While this is not a guarantee that he will be available, it is the best-case scenario in this situation.

On Sunday, the Lakers pulled away in the second half against an underperforming Raptors team without Davis, but were able to accomplish that by playing Hayes the entire season after AD left. In the only game he missed this season, the Lakers were soundly beaten by the Grizzlies.
