MAGA Farmhouse Law Enforcement, Business

play

Federal and state police vehicles surrounded the North Naples home and Immokalee business of famed farmer/grocer Alfie Oakes on Thursday.

Part grocery store, part bakery, part butcher shop, part bar, the $30 million-plus Seed to Table in Oakes is the popular hangout for the Make America Great Again wing of the local GOP as well as area foodies attracted to organic broccoli and craft beer.

When reached by phone, Oakes declined to comment, saying only, “We’re looking into it, but all is well.”

A man standing in the driveway outside a metal Oakes building in Immokalee Thursday afternoon was wearing a Defense Criminal Investigative Service (DCIS) badge, indicating he is a member of the Defense Department agency that investigates terrorism, cybercrime and fraud Investigated Oakes Farms vehicles were seen entering Thursday, but some were turned away. The man’s shirt has the words “Firearms Instructor” written on it.

According to WINK News, there were many Florida Highway Patrol vehicles outside both the home and business earlier in the day, but FHP referred questions to the U.S. Secret Service.

John Meo, chairman of the Collier County Republican Executive Committee, fears this is a weapon of federal law enforcement.

“We know they showed up and took materials,” he said. “It’s kind of funny that they’re doing it now. I think they want to get information on January 6th.”

In 2021, Oakes reported on two busloads of Trump supporters who drove to Washington, D.C. on January 6, 2021 to participate in the “most peaceful and beautiful demonstration of well over a million people I have ever seen.”

Oakes previously served as the county’s GOP committee member until he got into a high-profile dispute with Collier elections director Melissa Blazier over a late filing and was ineligible to run in the primary.

Fed parent: “Ongoing investigation”

The Secret Service declined to comment.

“The U.S. Secret Service will not confirm the existence or status of an investigation,” the agency said in an email.

However, Defense Department Inspector General spokeswoman Mollie Halpern confirmed Thursday afternoon that DCIS agents in Naples are actively conducting law enforcement operations.

“I cannot provide any further information at this time as this is an ongoing investigation,” she said.

DCIS is the law enforcement agency of the Department of Defense. DCIS special agents are deployed worldwide to conduct investigations that have significant impact on Department of Defense operations, ranging from cybercrimes to bribery, fraud, terrorism, public corruption and procurement fraud, Halpern said. “We play an essential role in protecting America’s warfighters.”
