Hungarian authorities have arrested a man accused of killing an American tourist who allegedly conducted disturbing internet searches after her disappearance before her body was found.

Mackenzie “Kenzie” Michalski, 31, a former nurse from Portland, Oregon, was vacationing in Europe with friends and had decided to stay in Budapest for a few days after her group’s departure, ABC 7 NY reported.

Michalski’s friends reported her missing on Nov. 4 when she didn’t check out of her Airbnb and missed a flight home. She was last seen at a nightclub. On November 8, Hungarian authorities discovered her body.

Local authorities launched an investigation and identified a 37-year-old Irish man as the main suspect. Shortly thereafter, police announced that Michalski and the suspect reportedly met at the nightclub and continued their evening together before heading to his rented apartment, where she was allegedly killed.

After the murder, the suspect reportedly tried to hide the crime by cleaning the apartment and hiding Michalski’s body in a suitcase before driving it out of the city to a wooded area near Lake Balaton.

Authorities allegedly discovered the suspect’s internet searches for body disposal, ABC 7 NY reported. Searches included: “Do pigs really eat corpses?” and “Texas woman killed by wild boar.”

The unnamed suspect, now in police custody, is said to have confessed to the crime and showed authorities the location where Michalski’s body was hidden.

The U.S. Embassy and Hungarian authorities are working together to address legal proceedings and offer support to Michalski’s family and friends. The investigation is still ongoing.
