Man dies after tractor-trailer accident in rural Freeport

STEPHENSON COUNTY, Ill. (WIFR) – The Stephenson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating what caused a crash that killed a 35-year-old Freeport man.

Shortly before 11:45 p.m. on November 10, officers reported they were notified by a cell phone crash detection alert of a collision in the area of ​​Illinois Route 26 North and Winneshiek Road. When officers arrived, they said they discovered a head-on collision between a semi-truck and a 2005 Dodge Neon.

Investigators believe the Dodge Neon was traveling south on Illinois Route 26 when it collided with the northbound semi. The driver of the Dodge Neon, a 35-year-old man from Freeport, was the only person in the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the tractor-trailer, a 60-year-old man from Beloit, was not injured, according to the Stephenson County Sheriff’s Office.

Officials did not release the name of the man killed in the crash.
