Man pleads guilty to arson in 2020 that killed two people

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – A Lubbock man pleaded guilty Friday morning to arson that killed two people in May 2020.

The murder charge against 40-year-old Todd Miller was dismissed as part of the plea agreement. Miller was sentenced to 20 years in prison with more than four years to serve.

On May 31, 2020, Lubbock Fire Rescue responded to a fire at the River Oaks apartment complex.

45-year-old Ta-Tanisha Harris and 63-year-old Tommy Thornton both died at the scene. Two other people were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

According to LFR, 16 residential units were affected by the fire.
