Manhattan man charged with first-degree murder after stabbing woman

RCPD has arrested a local man and charged him with first-degree murder after he reportedly stabbed and killed a woman in Manhattan on Tuesday afternoon.

Officers arrested 24-year-old Hunter Smith just after 11:30 a.m. in the 3000 block of Arbor Drive after a report that he stabbed 24-year-old Tabetha Deer of Mountain Home, Arkansas. Deer was taken by EMS to Ascension Via Christi and later airlifted to Stormont Vail in Topeka, where she died from her injuries.

Smith was charged with first-degree murder in the case and is currently being held in the Riley County Jail on $1 million bail.

The case is currently open and ongoing.
