Marcus Blaze announces commitment to Penn State

Marcus Blaze, the top recruit in the Class of 2025, has announced his commitment to wrestling at Penn State University. He made the announcement Wednesday morning during Perrysburg High School’s NCAA Signing Day ceremony. Blaze is the final top recruit from the Class of 2025 to announce his commitment and brings with him incredible expectations to reach the next level. Check out the article below to see how he fits with the Nittany Lions and his unparalleled success in the field.

How does Blaze fit in at Penn State?

With NCAA runner-up Beau Bartlett graduating after this year, Blaze could be a perfect fit for the national champion Nittany Lions at 141 pounds. Blaze currently weighs 75kg, so he could be slightly undersized at 75kg next season. Of course, if that’s the case, Blaze could use a redshirt or compete for the spot at 133 pounds. Penn State currently has two solid options at 133 pounds in Braeden Davis and All-American Aaron Nagao. For that reason, the Nittany Lions will likely look to have Blaze grow to 141 pounds.

Penn State’s projected 2025-26 roster:

125: Luke Lilledahl
133: Braeden Davis/Aaron Nagao
141: Marcus Blaze/Dalton Perry/Hayden Cunningham
149: Shayne Van Ness
157: Tyler Kasak/Alex Facundo/PJ Duke
165: Mitchell Mesenbrink
174: Levi Haines
184: Josh Barr/Zack Ryder
197: Connor Mirasola
285: Cole Mirasola

Marcus Blaze’s incredible freestyle and folkstyle achievements

Blaze is currently the top overall recruit in the class of 2025 and is aiming for the next level as a 133/141-pounder. Blaze has earned his No. 1 spot by winning pretty much everything over the last few years. Blaze won a U17 world title in 2023 and then won a U20 world silver medal this year. He also had incredible success at the senior level this year, placing third at the Olympic Trials at 57kg and second at the World Team Trials at 61kg. Blaze is still a full year removed from high school and has already earned victories over experienced college wrestlers such as Daton Fix, Nahshon Garrett and Seth Gross.

Blaze is truly one of the most successful high school wrestlers of all time and is poised for success as a Nittany Lion. Blaze is almost as successful in folkstyle as he is in freestyle. He is a three-time Ohio state champion and is seeking his fourth title this year. He has also won the prestigious Ironman tournament and placed in the Super 32 twice. Last season, Blaze showcased his skills at the Clarion Open in November, taking second place while notably defeating NCAA runner-up Matt Ramos.
